The ultimate guide for your first day of lessons!

We are so excited to welcome you and your family to the Seal Family! Family is exactly what we are- our school is family-owned and operated, and we have been teaching the community to swim since 1979!

Seal Swim School has two locations!

North Pinellas: Located at Palm Harbor Montessori.

West Pasco: Located at River Ridge Country Club

Parking is available and easy at both locations near the facility! Please be sure to drive slowly and carefully through our parking lots as there are lots of little swimmers coming to and leaving class!

First Day: Prior To Class Check in and Paperwork

Please arrive 10-15 minutes early for your very first day of lessons for the swim season!

Whether it’s your first time with us or your 10th season back, please make sure to stop by our office and check in on your first day. You should have already read, completed and signed our online policies prior to your first day. Our office staff will make sure your online policies have been received and completed!
You will also be asked to fill out the front and back of our Yellow contact card!

First Day: Prior To Class Swim Diapers

We require any child who is not 100% potty-trained to wear reusable swim diapers. This policy is strictly enforced as it is for the safety and well being of all children, families, and our staff!
You are required to purchase swim diapers through our office, as we have tested many diapers over the years and will supply your family with a diaper that we know works.
If you already purchased your swim diapers during registration, you can pick them up through our office at check-in!

Please make sure when putting the new diapers on your child that they are SNUG around the waist and legs! Loose diapers do not work as they are intended. When the diaper is tight, you know it’s right!
We do not allow, under any circumstances, disposable swim diapers or any regular, every day diapers. If your child is wearing these, they will not be allowed into class until the appropriate diapers are on!

First Day: Prior To Class Swim Diapers continued

Swim Diapers go by weight. Please make sure when putting the new diapers on your child that they are SNUG around the waist and legs! Loose diapers do not work as they are intended. When the diaper is tight, you know it’s right!

First Day: Prior To Class What’s Next!

After you have checked in, filled out paperwork and received your child’s swim diapers, We ask that you wait outside the gate until your child’s class is called!

At your child’s class time, our instructors will come and call your child’s name. We have a multitude of staff to ensure every child is walked to the correct class safely. When you hear your child’s name called, please raise your hand, and have them go with the instructor or deck team member who comes to walk them in!

First Day: Prior To Class What’s Next!

Once a team member has your little one, you are welcome to find a seat on our viewing deck! Sit back, relax and watch us work our magic!

First Day: After Class

Once your child’s class is complete the instructors will walk them to the gate and give your child directly to you. Make sure you tell them how AMAZING they did and how proud you are!

We have a treat cart with snacks available for purchase (these kiddos definitely earned a yummy treat!) All snacks and waters are $1 and you can place it in the Honor Bucket which is attached to the cart!

First Day Reminder

Remember: For some beginners, the first day can be a little overwhelming. Our curriculum has been developed and perfected through many years and our system is trusted by thousands of families in the community who now have strong swimmers because of our program. If your little one is having a tougher time on the first day, sometimes it is helpful if you hide out of sight. When they aren’t looking at you they are able to bond with their instructor and focus on the fun activities they are doing with their class! Also, make sure to be very positive about how they did, and talk about how great swim class and their instructor are!

First Day Completed!

With that you have completed the first day! We are so proud of all our swimmers and are so excited to meet and see all of our new and returning little seals!

On day two, if you have completed all of these steps you do not have to check in again. You are welcome to come closer to your child’s class time! Be sure to wait outside the gate before EVERY lesson until their instructor calls them for their
class! The next slide is a checklist of items for you to be prepped and ready with everything you need for class!

Seal Pros Group Lessons (Typically Ages 5 and up)

Group lessons are 30 minutes long and feature a 4:1 student-to-teacher ratio. Classes are designed to refine intermediate swimmers’ strokes while building endurance and speed. These fast-paced classes provide the perfect balance of challenge and fun, keeping more advanced students motivated and excited as they continue to grow their skill! Seal Pros Levels are also offered in a Private setting, 1 on 1, for students needing individual attention.

Adult Group Lessons: Teen – 10 years

We offer Group Lessons for anyone who is ready to learn a tad bit later in life! This class is so unique because as a group we will encourage, motivate and inspire each other to achieve the goal of swimming independently, confidently and safely! Adult and teen non-swimmers typically come to us because they WANT to learn! We take so much pride in our Adult and Teen swimmers. We love to celebrate their success in our program! We have Adult Group Lessons for beginners, athletes and any swim ability in between!

Adult Private Lessons: Teen – 10 years

Private lessons are a comforting option for some of our Adult and Teen swimmers. The one on one lesson experience is personal and encouraging. The Adult and Teen swimmers will have a lesson that is tailored to the exact needs of the individual student.

Baby Seal: Birth-17 months

Baby Seal classes follow a 4:1 student-to-teacher ratio, with four parent-and-baby pairs in the water alongside one instructor. This “Mommy and Me” format creates a fun, supportive environment that encourages bonding through a shared love of swimming. Babies are introduced to the foundations of swimming: balance, buoyancy, and breath control; while parents learn how to safely practice and reinforce these skills with their child.

Non-Competitive Swim Team: Ages 7 and up

Our non-competitive swim team is designed to teach swimmers all the ins and outs of being part of a swim team, without the weekend commitment to races or meets. Swimmers enjoy the camaraderie, conditioning, and technique training of a team environment while building strength and self-confidence for the sport. Workouts are carefully designed to prepare swimmers for the physical demands of competitive swim teams, allowing for a smooth transition when they’re ready to take the next step. Because its low commitment, this swim team also an excellent form of cardio conditioning that supports performance in other sports, and won’t interfere with weekend demands!

Special Abilities

Seal Swim School is devoted to providing the best instruction for each child enrolled in our program.  Children with Special Abilities are no exception.

Because families with a child with special needs are faced with more obstacles than most, we do our very best to offer an environment that accepts and challenges the child, regardless of the diagnosis. Our instructor’s knowledge of the student’s various needs, their experience and overall patience will help your child find success in the water!
